FERRARI F430 CHALLENGE

The car is a racing version of the Ferrari F430 road car. It complies with Grand AM regulations, with a full roll cage, automatic fire extinguisher, fuel cell, 5 point harness seat and weighs 2600 pounds. Modifications are strictly forbidden. Cars go through technical verification before the race week end and after each race for the top finishers.

The 4.3 litre V8 engine delivers 490 HP at 8500 rpm and is coupled to a 6 speed electro-hydraulic sequential gearbox with paddle shifts. The software is optimized for racing and provides 150 ms shift times. 0 to 60 mph is obtained in less than 3.5 seconds and top speed approaches 200 mph.

The car is equipped with carbon ceramic brakes. Central locking wheels are in magnesium. Integrated air jacks allow for fast wheels swaps.

The 40 channel data acquisition system from Magneti Marelli, provides precise measures of the dynamic characteristics of the car such as individual wheel speed, yaw, lateral and longitudinal gforces as well as many engine parameters. Real time transmission is not permitted, thus a lot of work goes into data analysis to fine tune the car in the paddock.

The car is equipped with a wireless communication system from Motorola enabling two way driver / pit communications.
